Neve Campbell is coming back for Scream 8, and she says so herself. Asked about upcoming projects, she told the Associated Press that the film is "in the pipeline" and that, whatever else she can't share, "I'll be in it."
She was speaking at the premiere of the second season of Netflix's spy thriller Black Doves. She laughed off follow-up questions, saying she "could never tell you anything" about the film. No director, release date or additional cast has been announced.
What's actually confirmed
Not much beyond Campbell herself, and that is fine. The report that Spyglass Media hired Lilla and Nora Zuckerman, the sisters who run Poker Face, to write the script dates to March. Nothing official names a director yet. We also don't know whether Courteney Cox, Jasmin Savoy Brown or Isabel May are along for the ride.
Why Sidney matters here
Campbell has played Sidney Prescott in six of the seven films. The one she skipped, Scream VI in 2023, followed a pay dispute; she has said her value to the franchise was bigger than what had been offered. The series carried on without her and the result was a movie that felt like a spin-off wearing the franchise's mask. Scream 7 brought her back in February, and it became the highest-grossing film in the series at more than $200 million worldwide, despite getting some of the franchise's weakest reviews.
That tells you what the studio sees. Reviews were rough and audiences still showed up, which is a fair summary of what a horror franchise is built on: recognizable faces and a final girl people have followed since 1996. Sidney is that final girl, and a Scream with her in it is a different product than one without.

What I'd watch for
The interesting question is how a franchise gives a character who has survived this much a reason to keep running. A confirmed Sidney is only good news if the script has something new to say about her. The Zuckermans' track record at least suggests they know how to make a familiar, genre-heavy formula feel fresh. Until a director and a date appear, though, this is a promise, not a plan.
